Shitbox Rally Ends In Townsville
This year's Shitbox rally will end in Townsville on Friday, where 550 people will cross the finish line.
They are expected to roll into the Townsville Showgrounds between 2-5:00PM.
The drivers would have travelled 3,614 kms from Melbourne over seven days.
The energy will be high as they will have just completed Shitbox Rally 2019 Spring - the largest independent fundraiser for Cancer Council nationally.
In teams of two, their crazy cars (worth less than $1,000 aka ‘Shitboxes’) will hopefully have survived the experience of tackling some of Australia’s roughest, dustiest roads.
Past rallies show that approximately 10% of cars simply won’t make it to the finish line, so come and see which cars have made the journey!
Teams must raise a minimum of $5,000 in order to participate, with some spending up to 10 months preparing for the rally, including fundraising, sourcing and decorating their shitbox and planning dress ups.
With over $21 million raised since the rallies began in 2009, the $2 million target for the Spring rally has already been smashed with current fundraising totals at over $2.2 million.
On Saturday the cars will be auctioned off at Manheim Auctions Townsville, with all funds raised going to Cancer Council – There is NO reserve on these vehicles and all will be sold as is.
