Serious assault, Townsville
Two girls have been charged with serious assault following an incident which occurred at the Long Tan Pool in Heatley.
It will be alleged at around 3.15pm on Saturday, a 65-year-old woman was attempting to put her three grandchildren into her vehicle, after a visit to the pool.
At this time, two girls have approached the woman where words have been exchanged.
The two girls have again approached the woman and began assaulting her.
The woman’s 10-year-old grandson and a 17-year-old female lifeguard who works at the pool have tried to intervene and were also assaulted in the process.
Nearby patrons have come to assist, and the two girls have run off in the direction of Finnerty Street, Heatley.
A 14-year-old Oonoonba girl and a 13-year-old Cranbrook girl have each been charged with one count of serious assault, one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and two counts each of common assault.
The girls are expected to appear in the Townsville Children’s Court.
