It is White Ribbon Day today and Queenslanders are being urged to start a conversation and raise awareness of domestic violence.

According to White Ribbon, the pandemic has seen a 27.5 percent increase in domestic violence in Queensland.

They are urging Townsville locals to show their support by taking part in their Letterbox Campaign today.

"Given that one in three women are at risk of being a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime, we urge you to get behind this community initiative," Lisa Miller from White Ribbon says.

"Simply decorate your letterbox using white ribbons, balloons, white streamers or some sort of teddy bear."

Townsville has seen around 2,900 DVO breaches in 2020.
