The COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine program will roll out at Palm Island on Monday.

The clinic would be held at the Palm Island Primary Healthcare Centre from May 10-14 to administer the first of two doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

Townsville Public Health Unit director Dr Steven Donohue says it is imperative people get vaccinated.

“What we are sadly seeing overseas is a very devastating reality for many communities," he says.

“Vaccination is your best protection. The COVID-19 vaccine is safe and free.”

Dr Donohue is urging Palm Islanders to book their appointment by visiting the Palm Island Primary Healthcare Centre or calling 4752 5957.

“Booking ahead means that we can help you with the paperwork beforehand which will make it easier and faster on the day,” he says.

“Walk ins will be allowed but our preference is for people to book beforehand.

“Millions across the world have received their Pfizer vaccine and now have strong protection against this nasty virus.

“I really hope the community comes and gets their jab.”

Palm Islanders can still get the alternative AstraZeneca vaccine, in two doses.

Operating hours at the clinic will be:
- May 10: 10.30am to 6pm
- May 11, 12 & 13: 10am to 6pm
- May 14: 8am to 2pm
