New covid cases announced in south-east Queensland

There will be no lockdown today but the next 24 to 48 hours will be key, after five locally transmitted cases were reported overnight.

That’s according to the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk who this morning announced five members of the same family have tested positive to COVID-19.

They include a student at St Thomas More College at Sunnybank in Brisbane, and their family members.

“Over the next 24 to 48 hours if we see any seeding, we will have to take very quick action

That school community, around 1000 people have now gone into quarantine,” she says.

“We believe the source of this cluster is a visitor from New South Wales who visited the father on father’s day

It is not currently known how the NSW resident came to be in Queensland. He has since returned home.
 

“This young girl had a headache and her mother took her to get her tested, Ms Palaszczuk says.

There is a sense of urgency here to do this, Ms Palaszczuk says.
