Townsville pet owners are being urged to make use of a free microchipping day on Wednesday.

Council has extended its monthly microchipping days until the end of the year, due to the popularity of previous events.

Of the more than 32,500 registered dogs in Townsville, just over 10,000 are microchipped, whereas of the approximately 4,700 approved cats, more than 3,500 are microchipped.

The event will run from 9am until 2pm at Townsville’s Animal Care and Adoption Centre on Tompkins Road at Shaw, with one event held every month.

To book an appointment, residents must call Council on 13 48 10.

Free microchipping dates for the rest of the year are September 22, October 20, November 17 and December 15.
