4WD adventure raising funds for sick kids to kickstart in Townsville
A four-wheel-drive adventure that aims to raise funds for sick kids will get underway in Townsville next week.
More than 58 vehicles decorated with bold colours and themes will set off on a 12-day journey from the 4WD Supacentre on Monday.
The adventurers will undertake a 3,165 kilometre trip from Townsville to Port Douglas, via Thursday Island, which is set to conclude on June 12.
Each 4WD team has committed to raise $5,000 for Variety, the state’s children charity.
The money will go towards wheelchairs and wigs, therapy and counselling, educational supplies and other items kids in need would have missed out on.
The participants will also get to meet some of the local kids who reap the benefits of their fundraising through presentations in local communities.
They will also provide a welcome economic boost to the country towns they visit.
An experienced team of staff and officials will support those taking part in the Adventure Kings Variety event.
Radio communications, mechanical assistance, and a scout to check the tracks will be provided to ensure participants are safe and have fun.
