Townsville’s tight-knit defence community is grieving following a deadly training incident at the Townsville Field Training Area on Wednesday evening.
An M113 armoured vehicle rolled off the road just after 6:40pm, leaving one soldier dead and two others injured.
The Australian Defence Force has confirmed the soldier died at the scene from fatal injuries sustained in the crash.
Two fellow soldiers were transported to Townsville University Hospital — a man in his 30s was airlifted in a stable condition with chest and abdominal injuries, while a man in his 20s was treated for a back injury. Both have since been discharged.
The ADF has requested privacy for the families involved as investigations into the incident continue.
