A high‑visibility police blitz across Townsville has uncovered a worrying level of dangerous behaviour on the roads, with officers conducting 2385 random breath tests and charging 25 people in just a matter of days.

Senior police say they’re still seeing extreme speeding, unlicensed driving, and motorists under the influence of alcohol and drugs — despite repeated warnings.

In one shocking case, a woman at Condon allegedly blew 0.251, more than five times the legal limit.

Two other drivers were each fined nearly $2000 after being caught travelling more than 40 kilometres an hour over the limit, prompting renewed concern about community safety.

Officers say the crackdown is far from over, with more targeted operations planned as police work to curb reckless behaviour and reduce serious crashes across the region.
