Mount Louisa’s walking tracks are closed today and tomorrow as Council carries out a major hazard reduction burn on the southern side of the hill.
Heavy rain earlier this year fuelled thick vegetation growth, increasing bushfire risk across the area. Mayor Nick Dametto says the recent uncontrolled Castle Hill blaze shows why Townsville can’t afford to fall behind on bushfire management.
The burn covers around 25 hectares above Zoe Court, Strathburn Street and Adrian Rise, and will take up to two days including follow‑up checks. Residents sensitive to smoke are urged to keep windows and doors closed while the burn is underway.
Cr Dametto says every household should also have a Bushfire Survival Plan and make sure everyone at home knows what to do if a fire starts nearby.
