The carjacking of an 80-year-old woman in Townsville has been labelled ‘disgraceful’.

Two girls knocked on the victim’s door at Marks Street, Hermit Park, asking for water yesterday afternoon.

Senior Sergeant Scot Warrick says the elderly woman gave the pair some water, before agreeing to give them a lift.

“The victim then agreed to drive them to Rosslea, and on the way the girls became threatening towards this lady and demanded she drive them to different locations,” he says.

When the woman pulled over and demanded the girls get out, the pair then pushed the woman from her white Kia sedan and stole the car.

The woman was found shocked and dazed with minor injuries on Love Lane around 2pm.

Snr Sgt Warrick says he has been in Townsville a long time and was ‘absolutely shocked’ by the incident.

“This lady is 80-years-old, she’s just trying to help people out,” he says.

“Trying to do the right thing she has now ended up suffering quite severe stress and shock.

“It’s disgraceful and I think the community will be outraged by this.”

Police are searching for two First Nations girls, either teenagers or in their early 20s.

Anyone with information or relevant CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to contact police.
