New flood cameras and early warning systems are now in place at three known hotspots across the Burdekin. The technology, funded through the Queensland Resilience and Risk Reduction Fund, will provide real-time monitoring and alerts to improve public safety during the wet season.
Federal Minister for Emergency Management Kristy McBain said the initiative will help give Burdekin communities better access to information when they need it most and keep people safer during the wet season.
“This project means families, farmers and businesses can plan ahead and stay safe when heavy rain hits, which is exactly what this funding is designed to do,” she said.
“Congratulations to Burdekin Shire Council and everyone involved for delivering a practical project that makes a real difference on the ground.”
Cameras are now live at Allen Road, Viv Cox Bridge, and Anabranch Bridge.
