Police assaulted after stopping stolen vehicle

A girl is accused of assaulting a police officer after a stolen car was intercepted in Townsville.

Police deployed a Tyre Deflation Device to stop the vehicle on Nathan Street at Aitkenvale on Sunday.

The car kept driving before a group got out and fled at Vincent.

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly found in possession of a knife, while a 14-year-old girl is accused of assaulting a 32-year-old male officer during the arrest.

The 16-year-old Garbutt girl was charged with one count each of unlawful use of the motor vehicle and possession of a knife in public, and the 14-year-old Mount Louisa girl was charged with one count each of unlawful use of the motor vehicle and serious assault police officer.

Both girls are due to appear in Townsville Children’s Court at a later date.

An 18-year-old Kirwan man was charged with unlawful use of the motor vehicle and due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court.

Investigations are continuing.
