Townsville woman facing kidnapping and torture charges

A Townsville woman has been arrested and charged with torture, kidnapping and assault with a weapon, after allegedly abducting a Cairns North teenager.

Police are accusing a 34-year-old Belgian Gardens woman of kidnapping a 19-year-old Westcourt woman from the corner of Sheridan and Charles Street on Saturday, before assaulting her in the car, taking the teen to a property, and refusing to let her leave.

The girl was kept there for three days, between June 13 and 15. She was allegedly repeatedly assaulted and held against her will before police found her. She was treated in hospital for a number of injuries; her head has also been shaved.

Investigations are continuing, but it is understood the women were known to each other.

The 34-year-old woman has been charged with five counts of common assault, one count each of assaults occasioning bodily harm, assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst armed/in company, threats, deprivation of liberty – unlawfully detain/confine, torture, possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 3 but less than schedule 4, possess utensils or pipes etc that had been used, possessing dangerous drugs, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence.

She was refused bail and was due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court yesterday, June 16.
