Wet weather causing a spike in diseases

The recent wet weather has seen a spike in a number of mosquito and soil borne diseases in our region.

Melioidosis and Barmah Forest virus cases have both nearly doubled the average number we see in Townsville this time of year.

Ross River fever has also seen a spike, with 28 cases reported across the Townsville Hospital and Health Service in 2023.
