A police shooting in Townsville is under investigation after Sunday afternoon took a violent turn at Willows Shopping Centre, in Thuringowa Central.
Just after 3pm officers confronted a wanted man in his 20s along Carthew Street, near the shopping center’s loading dock. Shortly after, an officer discharged a firearm before performing first aid at the scene – the man then taken to Townsville University Hospital.
Investigators are appealing for anyone with information, dashcam footage, or may have seen anything in the area around Carthew Street to contact police.
The matter is being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
It’s the second police shooting in Townsville in just over a week.
