Nineteen new First Year Constables have officially joined the Northern Region, delivering a frontline boost across Townsville and Mount Isa as they begin their policing careers. The officers, who graduated from the Oxley Academy late last month, bring with them a wide mix of life experience — from defence and childcare to education, professional sport and international policing backgrounds.

Assistant Commissioner Virginia Nelson says the new recruits reflect the diversity of the communities they’ll now serve, and will quickly become a visible part of day‑to‑day policing across the North. The constables have been deployed to stations including Kirwan, Mundingburra, Deeragun, Ayr, Ingham, Stuart and Townsville, where they’ll begin supervised operational training alongside experienced officers.

Nine of the new constables will eventually head west to Mount Isa after completing a year of development in Townsville. Senior officers say the group will play a key role in frontline response, community engagement and proactive operations such as Operation Yankee Forge, which targets high‑visibility policing and offender disruption.
