The woman fell to the ground and hit her head, suffering life-changing injuries, while the vehicle fled the scene.

Paramedics took the woman to the Townsville Hospital, where she spent many months in a serious but stable condition with head injuries.

She has since been released from hospital to return home.

Forensic Crash Unit investigators used CCTV footage to eventually identify and locate the car involved.

Police charged a 66-year-old Belgian Gardens man on October 6 with one count each of driving without due care and attention causing grievous bodily harm and failing to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash.

The man was also charged with obstructing police, after he fled upon police arriving.

He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on November 16.

In March of this year a $50,000 reward was issued in relation this incident, however as the arrest resulted directly from police investigations, the payment of the reward is not applicable.
